Beware bogus email job offers

There are, unfortunately, many bogus emails claiming to offer jobs. You must scrutinize such emails very carefully. Some may look like they came from legitimate sources, such as a job search site you may be registered with. Here are a few tips:

- If the email claims that someone has read your resume and thinks you will be a good match, but the job description has nothing to do with your skill set, be wary.

- If the email claims you were referred by someone, and no one you know informed you in advance that they were passing your name along, and the email fails to say who actually referred you, be wary. If the email seems, on close examination, to possibly be a legitimate company, before you provide all your personal details, write back and simply ask who actually referred you. If you get a response, but the response is generic or claims not to know who actually referred you, be wary.

-If the offer sounds too good to be true (get rich quick), be wary.

Do some due diligence to verify the legitimacy of a company if you receive unsolicited job offers.
